TheDenverChannel.com (7News) is reporting that “Pueblo police are looking for the driver of a truck that was one of two vehicles that struck a 50-year-old pedestrian who later died from her injuries.” The pedestrian, who may have been intoxicated, was hit by a Buick and then a truck while crossing the street. The driver of the Buick stopped to offer assistance, but the driver of the truck kept going. Police are fairly certain the injuries sustained by the truck are what killed the pedestrian. Police have a description of the truck and its driver from witnesses.
In the United States, a pedestrian is killed in a “traffic crash every 120 minutes and injured in a traffic crash every 8 minutes.” According to a statistic report by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Saftey Administration), nearly 4,400 pedestrians were killed in accidents involving vehicles, while 69,000 were injured. Most pedestrian accidents occurred in urban areas at non-intersection locations.

9News is reporting that a man died this morning after his truck hit a cement truck head-on. The accident happened on Highway 56 east of Weld County Road 1. Investigators say that the pick-up truck was heading east and the cement truck heading west. Investigators are still trying to figure out why the accident happened but don’t suspect alcohol to be a factor.
When a large truck and a passenger vehicle collide, the results can be devastating. According to the “Large Truck Crash Causation” study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, when a passenger vehicle is in an accident with a tractor trailer, semi truck or an 18 wheel truck, the smaller vehicle’s passengers are more likely to be seriously injured or killed than those in the truck. The study reviewed 120,000 large truck accidents that occurred from April 2001 to December 2003. The study involved 241,000 total vehicles where injuries directly resulted from the accident finding that 44,097 crashes resulted in incapacitating injuries.

A father and son were injured in a car accident Monday morning. According to the Denver Post, a father and his 14-year-old son were driving to Heritage High School in Littleton when the father suffered a medical emergancy. The teen grabbed the steering wheel to avoid a near head-on collision with a car carrying four people, instead he smashed through a fence and hit a tree. The car rolled on to it’s roof, pinning the father in the car. Both the father and son were seriously injured but are expected to recover fully from their injuries.
A car accident can result in serious injury and death. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, in the United States in 2008, 37,261 people died in motor vehicle accidents.

CNN is reporting that more than 40 over the counter children’s drugs are being recalled due to not meeting quality standards. The recall is not due to any negative medical events but rather as a precautionary measure. Those drugs include children’s Tylenol products and children’s Motrin products, among others. The recall was issued after Consumer Healthcare/ McNeil consulted with the FDA and determined the drugs did not meet quality standards. Parents are urged to not use any of the recalled products for their kids.
Poor quality in children’s over-the-counter drugs could possibly lead to accidental poisonings or adverse reactions to those drugs. According to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Drug and Poison Information Center, in 2000, 1.2 million children nationally under the age of five were exposed to potentially poisonous substances. It is estimated that seventy percent of accidental poisonings are preventable. A partial list of products that can be potentially dangerous include acetaminophen (Tylenol and Motrin), antifreeze and insecticides.
When you give your children over-the-counter medications, you expect those drugs to be of the highest standards. You never believe that those drugs could be harming your child or causing injury. Injuries to children are especially disturbing for many reasons. The effects of injuries on a child may have a profound impact upon their physical, emotional and intellectual development. If your child has been seriously injured as a result of poor quality standards in over-the-counter medications, please call Denver Children’s Injury Attorney Saul Sarney at 303-759-3300 today for a free consultation.

The RTD driver involved in a fatal bus-bicycle accident that killed a Lafayette man has been charged with careless driving resulting in death. The Denver Post is reporting that the RTD bus driver, Paul Johnson of Westminster, was booked and released at the Lafayette Police Department on Tuesday evening. The accident occurred on April 6th at the intersection of City Center Circle and South Public Road. The cyclist, Marvin Webb, died on April 7th.
Webb’s death was one of four deaths attributed to collisions with RTD buses in a week. On April 3rd, an RTD bus ran a red light at East Eighth Ave, hitting a Volkswagen Passat and killing both occupants. On April 6th, an elderly man was struck and killed by an RTD bus in Aurora. Police said it appeared the man might have been on the sidewalk when he was struck at the intersection of South Peoria Street and East Mississippi Avenue.
As fuel costs rise, more and more people are turning to energy-efficient modes of transportation including bicycles. However, with traffic counts mounting, our roads are becoming more and more congested, resulting in more auto-bicycle collisions and fatalities. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2008, 716 cyclists were killed and 52,000 injured in traffic crashes.

According to RTD, a person was killed last night after trespassing onto some light rail tracks west of Speer Boulevard. The victim was struck by a north bound C Line train. 9News.com is reporting that, the accident occurred just north of the Pepsi Center. The light rail train operator was in a position on the tracks where the operator could not see the victim. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Wednesday morning light rail traffic has been resumed after the conclusion of an overnight investigation.
Earlier this month a 22-year-old college student at CSU was killed after being struck by a train. It is suspected the victim, Devon Arnold, was train hoping after leaving a Denver Nuggets game at Pepsi Center.
The Federal Railroad Administration reports that there were over 9,500 train or railway accidents in 2009. Trespassing incidents accounted for almost 400 fatalities alone.
There are many reasons a person may not realize they are in or approaching a railroad crossing. These include broken barriers, unlit markers, overgrown brush and vegetation, and a lack of proper signage.
If you or someone you love has been injured in a light rail train or railroad train accident, call Denver Injury Attorney Saul Sarney today. Mr. Sarney will examine your case with you to determine if you may be able to recover for damaged property, medical expenses, or pain and suffering. (303) 759-3300.
