Medical Errors – Denver Personal Injury Attorney

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

Despite efforts to end surgical errors, they are still being reported by doctors. According to the Denver Post doctors are reporting operations performed on the wrong body parts and even on the wrong people. The Colorado Physician Insurance Co. published a study in the Archives of Surgery medical journal showing a database of errors that Colorado doctors had reported from January 1, 2002 to June 1, 2008. Of the 27,370 incidents reported in the database, 107 operations were performed on the wrong body part and 25 surgeries were performed on the wrong person altogether.  About one fourth of those incidents resulted in significant harm to the patients, according to the studies investigators. The study’s lead author, Dr. Phillip Stahel of Denver Health Medical Center said, ‘The numbers are pretty shocking and not unique to Colorado. It is a worldwide phenomenon.”

No one wants to be a medical malpractice statistic, and yet medical errors have been documented to occur frequently. According to Free-Press-Release.com, on average 2,500 complaints are filed yearly against doctors in the U.S. A recent study by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences projected that close to 98,000 patients may die every year in hospitals because of medical errors.

College Football Player Killed in Colorado Car Crash – Denver Personal Injury Attorney

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

One University of Wyoming football player was killed and three of his teammates injured when a pickup truck they were in “drifted off a Colorado highway and crashed.” KDVR (Fox 31 News) has reported that the crash took place early Monday morning on Highway 287 in Larimer County. The young man who was killed was 19-year-old Ruben Narcisse of Miami. It is believed at this time that the three other men involved in the accident will make complete recoveries from their injuries. Colorado State Troopers think that the driver of the pickup, 19-year-old Trey Fox of Glenwood Springs, fell asleep at the wheel sending the truck off the road.

Sleep Review: The Journal for Sleep Specialists claims that the number of sleep related accidents reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is conservative. According to the NHTSA, there are nearly 100,000 crashes a year in the US involving drowsy drivers, “killing more than 1,500 Americans and injuring another 71,000.” The same report estimates the damages of these crashes at over $12.5 billion.

When you lose a loved one to a car accident you need a compassionate Denver personal injury attorney to assist you with your legal options. During such a crisis an attorney may not be the first person you think of calling. However, a qualified and passionate attorney can help relieve some of the stress that comes with the legal issues surrounding a crash. Saul Sarney has the experience and knowledge you need. Truck Driver Killed In Collision – Denver Truck Accident Attorney

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

A semi-driver died early this morning after colliding with a bison and rolling his truck. The Denver Post is reporting that the accident happened at about 3:35 a.m. on westbound U.S. 36 just north of Byers. Colorado State Trooper Nate Reid said the driver was hauling salt when his truck struck a bison that had wandered onto the highway. The collision caused the truck to run off the road and roll. The driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident and investigators are looking into where the bison came from and who may own the animal.

According to Defenders.org, between 1993 and 2003 there were 26,678 wildlife vehicle collisions in Colorado. Of those collisions, 2,266 people were injured and 23 people lost their lives. Almost half of all wildlife related car accidents are because the driver swerved to avoid an animal crossing the road.

The physical damage suffered by passengers and vehicles in a truck accident is typically far more severe than in many other motor vehicle accidents. Traumatic brain injury, paralyzing spinal cord injury, burns and amputations can change the lives of victims forever. Denver Truck Accident Attorney Saul R. Sarney works with medical experts and life care planners to help ensure clients recover fair compensation for their injuries and the impact on their lives. Lawsuit Claims Gross Incompetence – Denver Wrongful Death Attorney

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

A lawsuit has been filed by relatives of a Denver family killed by carbon-monoxide in an Aspen area house. According to 7News, the lawsuit was filed against companies that worked on the house and county building inspectors. The lawsuit alleges that gross incompetence led to the 2008 wrongful deaths of the Lofgren family. The family won a church auction for a getaway to stay in the home over the Thanksgiving weekend.

The term “wrongful death” usually refers to a civil lawsuit filed between the family of a victim and the person they believe to be responsible for the victim’s death. A wrongful death can be defined as either negligent or unjust, with the actions of one causing the death of another. Wrongful death cases differ from state to state, however they are all the same in principle. The accused party will have behaved in a way or committed an act that caused the victim’s death, or the defendant would have behaved in a negligent manner that led to the victim’s death. The victim is survived by a spouse, family members or dependents and there are grounds for a monetary settlement. A settlement will generally be awarded for medical and funeral expenses, as well pain and suffering and loss of financial support.

Woman Killed in Hit-And-Run Accident – Colorado Pedestrian Accident Attorney

Friday, July 30th, 2010

TheDenverChannel.com (7News) is reporting that “Pueblo police are looking for the driver of a truck that was one of two vehicles that struck a 50-year-old pedestrian who later died from her injuries.” The pedestrian, who may have been intoxicated, was hit by a Buick and then a truck while crossing the street. The driver of the Buick stopped to offer assistance, but the driver of the truck kept going. Police are fairly certain the injuries sustained by the truck are what killed the pedestrian. Police have a description of the truck and its driver from witnesses.

In the United States, a pedestrian is killed in a “traffic crash every 120 minutes and injured in a traffic crash every 8 minutes.” According to a statistic report by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Saftey Administration), nearly 4,400 pedestrians were killed in accidents involving vehicles, while 69,000 were injured. Most pedestrian accidents occurred in urban areas at non-intersection locations.

All too often pedestrian accidents result in very serious and life changing injuries or death. Pick-up Truck and Cement Truck Collide – Denver Semi-Truck Accident Lawyer

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

9News is reporting that a man died this morning after his truck hit a cement truck head-on. The accident happened on Highway 56 east of Weld County Road 1. Investigators say that the pick-up truck was heading east and the cement truck heading west. Investigators are still trying to figure out why the accident happened but don’t suspect alcohol to be a factor.

When a large truck and a passenger vehicle collide, the results can be devastating. According to the “Large Truck Crash Causation” study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, when a passenger vehicle is in an accident with a tractor trailer, semi truck or an 18 wheel truck, the smaller vehicle’s passengers are more likely to be seriously injured or killed than those in the truck. The study reviewed 120,000 large truck accidents that occurred from April 2001 to December 2003. The study involved 241,000 total vehicles where injuries directly resulted from the accident finding that 44,097 crashes resulted in incapacitating injuries.

When you are injured in a truck accident, or suffer the accidental death of a loved one, we can help. The Law Firm of Saul R.
