Sticky Accelerator Causes Major Toyota Recall

Friday, March 5th, 2010

If you own certain 2005-2010 Toyota models, your car could be subject to a safety recall. Auto manufacturer Toyota announced this month that it has decided to suspend the sale of 8 of its models after an investigation discovered sticking gas pedals. These models include the 2009-10 RAV4 , 2009-10 Corolla , 2009-10 Matrix ,  2005-10 Avalon , 2007-10 Camry, 2010 Highlander, 2007-10 Tundra, and 2008-10 Sequoia.

Irv Miller, group vice president for Toyota Motor Sales, said in a press release “Our investigation indicates that there is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position.” The recall affects roughly 2.3 million Toyota vehicles.

On their website Toyota suggests that if you believe your vehicle is suffering from a sticking acceleration pedal, you should drive the Toyota vehicle to the nearest safe location, shut the engine shut off and contact a Toyota dealer for assistance.
